John Edmund Mulaney (born August 26, 1982 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American stand-up comedian , actor , voice actor , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

Mulaney grew up in Chicago as the child of two lawyers. His mother was a professor at Northwestern University . He attended Georgetown University . He then moved to New York City , where he started working in the Comedy Central office .

In August 2008, he auditioned for the US comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL) and was hired as a writer. He became famous for his Stefon sketches, in which Bill Hader played the character of Stefon, the expert on New York nightlife. Mulaney won his first Emmy in 2011 after being nominated for Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics as one of the writers of Justin Timberlake's monologue at his SNL appearance.

In addition to his work at SNL, Mulaney also worked as a stand-up comedian. He has appeared on talk shows such as Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live! on. In 2009 he released his first stand-up comedy album, The Top Part. Some of his appearances for Comedy Central and Netflix were also recorded.

The Mulaney series was broadcast by Fox Broadcasting Company from October 2014 to February 2015 . John Mulaney played himself in the lead role. At the 2018 Emmy Awards , he won another award in the "Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special" category for his work on the Netflix production John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City .

On July 5, 2014, Mulaney married his fiancée Annamarie Tendler. He announced that he would stop drinking alcohol after struggling with drug and alcohol use in his youth.
