John Pelham, 7th Earl of Yarborough

John Edward Pelham, 7th Earl of Yarborough ( June 2, 1920 - March 21, 1991 ) was a British peer and politician .

Life

Pelham was the only son of Marcus Pelham, 6th Earl of Yarborough and his wife Pamela Douglas-Pennant, daughter of Colonel Edward Douglas-Pennant, 3rd Baron Penrhyn . During the Second World War he served as a major in the Grenadier Guards . After the war he became involved in the war veterans' organization Royal British Legion and was president of this organization in the Midlands region between 1959 and 1960 and then in the East Midlands region from 1960 to 1962 . Thereafter, between 1962 and 1973 was a member of the National Executive Council of the Royal British Legion.

After Pelham was briefly High Sheriff of Lincolnshire in 1964, he served as Vice-Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire between 1964 and his death in 1991 . He was also from 1965 to 1969 Colonel of Honor of the 440 Light Air Defense Regiment of the Royal Armored Corps of the Territorial Army.

When his father died on December 2, 1966, Pelham inherited the title of 7th Earl of Yarborough and the subordinate titles of 7th Baron Worsley , of Appuldurcombe in the Isle of Wight, and 8th Baron Yarborough , of Yarborough in the County of Lincoln. Thereby he became a member of the House of Lords and belonged to it until his death. At the same time he was between 1969 and 1971 Colonel of Honor of the Humber Regiment and then from 1971 to 1972 Deputy Colonel of Honor of the 2nd Battalion of the Yorkshire Volunteers . He also served as Patron of the Royal British Legion in the East Midlands region from 1974 until his death in 1991.

His marriage to Florence Anne Petronel Upton on December 12, 1957 resulted in three daughters and son Charles John Pelham , who inherited his title of 8th Earl of Yarborough on his death in 1991.
