John Stidworthy

John Stidworthy , FZS , (born February 12, 1943 in London , England ) is a British non-fiction author . His works on wild animals , plants , dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, fossils , prehistoric people , earthquakes and volcanoes are mostly aimed at children and young people, but also at adults.

Life

Stidworthy is the son of Leonard and Gladys Stidworthy, née Moughton. His father was a local government official. 1964 Stidworthy earned the Bachelor of Arts at Pembroke College of University of Cambridge . From 1964 to 1973 he taught zoological tours for schoolchildren and students at the London Zoo and Whipsnade Zoo as a lecturer for the Zoological Society of London . In January 1966 he married the computer scientist Susan Elizabeth Cowell. From this marriage two sons were born. From 1973 to 1978 Stidworthy was a lecturer and from 1978 to 1983 he worked in the exhibition development department of the Natural History Museum in London. He has been a freelance writer since 1983 .

Stidworthy is an advisor, reviewer, and author of various books and magazines. He has also contributed to various encyclopedias, including The Great Illustrated Dictionary (1983), The Reader's Digest Book of Facts (1984), Pocket Encyclopedia (1987) and T wentieth Century Encyclopedia (1988). From 1964 to 1973 he was editor and author of Zoo Magazine . From 1977 to 1980 he was editor, translator and author of Safari Cards , published by Edito-Service SA in Geneva . In 1986 he was the editor and translator of the Longman Nature Guides series . In the same year he published the series A Year in the Life , which contains volumes on the badger, the owl, the elephant, the tiger, the whale and the chimpanzee.

Stidworthy is a member of the Zoological Society of London.
