John Treloar (basketball coach)

John Treloar (* 1955 / 1956 ) is an American basketball coach . He worked for the German Bundesliga club Bayreuth, among others.

career

Treloar from Clinton , Mississippi , played basketball at Belhaven College . After completing his business studies at college, he went to the University of Alabama , where he earned a master's degree and was an assistant coach on the basketball team between 1980 and 1982.

Treloar went to Germany and coached OSC Bremerhaven in the 2nd basketball league from 1982 to 1986 . In the 1985/86 season he led the OSC to win the championship title in the northern season of the second division. In the 1986/87 season Treloar was head coach of BG Steiner Bayreuth in the basketball league . The relationship between Treloar, who was only in his early 30s at the time, and the Bayreuth team turned out to be difficult, however, as he led the Franks into the Bundesliga championship round, where they were eliminated in the quarter-finals.

He went back to the United States and was in the 1987/88 season as manager of the Mississippi Jets in the professional league CBA. In 1988/89 he was employed in an identical capacity at the CBA competitor Wichita Falls Texans. Between 1990 and 1994 he was the coach of the Texans and led them to win the championship title in 1991. In the game years 1994/95 (Chicago Rockers) and 1996/97 (Connecticut Pride) he held the coaching positions with other CBA teams. In 1997 he worked as a trainer in Venezuela.

From 1997 to 2004 Treloar was assistant coach of the basketball team at Indiana University , in 2002 he helped on this post with the entry into the final tournament of the NCAA . From 2004 to 2008 Treloar was in the service of Louisiana State University , where he worked as an assistant coach and in 2006 again contributed to reaching the top four teams in the NCAA playoffs. He returned to the professional field and worked between 2008 and 2010 as the head coach of the Erie Bay Hawks in the NBA D-League .

In September 2010, Treloar was appointed squad director of the NBA club Phoenix Suns and in this role worked closely with the sports director and the team manager on personnel issues. He was also responsible for directing the player screening of possible candidates for the draft process. After five years in that position, Treloar faced a return to Louisiana State University ahead of the 2015-16 season. There he was supposed to work as an assistant coach again, but withdrew his commitment in July 2015. In August 2015, he was hired as a squad director by NBA club Atlanta Hawks .
