John Laurence Wilcox (born May 7, 1913 in Stoke-on-Trent , Staffordshire , † May 31, 1979 in Torbay , Devon ) was a British cameraman .

Live and act

The nephew of the director and producer Herbert Wilcox began his film career in 1930 as the second camera assistant to his colleague Freddie Young . In 1934 he was promoted to a simple cameraman and was involved in productions such as Queen Victoria , Sixty Glorious Years , Auf Wiedersehen, Mr. Chips , The Macomber Affair , The Third Man , State Secret and The Damned of the Islands between 1937 and 1951 .

In 1951, John Wilcox made his debut in the crime thriller The Perpetrator Goes North as the sole responsible director of photography. Since then he has photographed a number of medium quality entertainment films, but in the 1960s and early 1970s he also had to be content with working on simple science fiction and horror films on several occasions. In more ambitious productions such as The Unknown Feind , Hot Earth , The Guns of Navarone , Casino Royale and The Eagle Has Landed , his work was reduced to that of a second-unit and aerial photographer or that of a cameraman of additional shots.

Wilcox has also worked for television and advertising, and a TV documentary he photographed about the painter Paul Gauguin was nominated for an ' Emmy '. His commercial for the Chevrolet car brand received an award for best commercial.
