John Wilkinson Taylor

John Wilkinson Taylor (born September 2, 1906 in Covington , Kentucky , † December 11, 2001 in Denver , Colorado ) was Acting Director General of UNESCO from December 2, 1952 to July 3, 1953 .

John Taylor was born to John Wesley and Ethel Taylor. Wilkinson born. In 1929 he received his Bachelor , 1930 its Master and in 1936 he was invited by Columbia University Teachers College for Ph.D. PhD. He had been a teacher since the late 1920s, including as an English teacher at the Kaiser-Friedrich-Realgymnasium in Berlin-Neukölln from 1930 to 1931 . From 1938 to 1940 he was assistant to the President of Louisiana State University . During the Second World War he was an officer, most recently a lieutenant colonel . From 1947 to 1950 he served as President of the University of Louisville . From 1951 to 1954 he was Deputy Director General of UNESCO. He held office on an interim basis after Jaime Torres Bodet's early departure until Luther H. Evans was elected General Manager.

Taylor was married first to Katherine Willis Wright, with whom he had a son, second marriage to Helen Hutchinson Greene and third marriage to June Cornell Fairbank.
