The Johnson River is a 39 km long left tributary of the Tanana River in the interior of Alaska .
The river has its source in the Johnson Glacier in the northern Alaska range , flows northward and flows into the Tanana River 66 km east of Delta Junction . Just before the mouth of the river, the Alaska Highway crosses the river. The Johnson River is part of the Yukon river system .
The river was named in the 1880s by Lieutenant Henry T. Allen after Peder Johnson, a Swedish miner and member of his expedition.
