Joker Game ( Japanese ジ ョ ー カ ー ・ ゲ ー ム , Jōkā Gēmu ) is a series of novels by Kōji Yanagi . It was published in four volumes in Japan from 2008 to 2012 and was adapted as a manga , feature film, and anime television series. The story is about a Japanese espionage organization during the Second World War .

content

In 1937, Japan established a secret espionage organization to keep up with the intelligence agencies of competing states. Under the direction of Lieutenant Yūki ( 結 城 ), spies are trained here in natural sciences, technology, sports and languages, so that they are then well prepared for their missions all over the world. The organization is named D-Gikan. Only civilians with a distant relationship with the military are among the nine graduates. A principle of the work of the spies, unlike the soldiers, is that killing and being killed is always the worst solution in any predicament.

The plot follows the spies on their missions, each in a different city in the world. Meanwhile, Yūki always tries to assert himself with his information against the military, with whom he is increasingly in conflict. So it comes to the establishment of a second military secret service, which Yūki with the help of his coworkers can show as incompetent. The D-Gikan counter-espionage in Japan also has to fight back.
