The Jomizu-Arena (originally ice rink Duisburg ) is an ice rink in the Neudorf district of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Duisburg . It is part of the Duisburg sports park . The arena is the training and home ground of the ice hockey club of the Füchse Duisburg ( ice hockey major league ), which played in the DEL from 2005 to 2009 , as well as various hobby teams.

history

View of the ice surface

The ice rink was built in 1971 in the direct vicinity of the Wedaustadion (today: Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena ) and the regatta track in the south of Duisburg. It was originally identical to the Iserlohn ice rink , the Hannibal Arena in Herne and the Essen-West ice rink . However, like the Jomizu Arena itself, these were rebuilt and modernized several times. There is a restaurant in the arena, which is located behind one of the gates. In the 2014/15 season, the official capacity of the hall was reduced from 4,800 to 3,800 guests for ice hockey games.

Right from the start, the hall was used by both ice hockey players and figure skaters alike. Today the Füchse Duisburg play their games of the ice hockey Oberliga Nord in the arena. In addition, the figure skaters of the roller and ice sports community Walsum use the hall. The hall is also open in the winter months for public ice skating, including regular disco events. In summer, the ice is thawed so that the arena can be used for other events.

The renaming of the SCANIA-Arena to the Kenston-Arena was made at the start of the top division season 2017/18. For the 2019/20 season the hall was named Jomizu-Arena . The contract initially runs for one year.
