Jonas Näf

Jonas Näf (born September 3, 1826 in Oberuzwil ; † January 2, 1867 in St. Gallen ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician .

Life

Born the son of a businessman, Näf studied law in Munich after attending grammar school in St. Gallen . During his studies in 1847 he became a member of the Old Munich Burschenschaft Rhenania . In 1848 he was at the head of the Munich student movement. On March 4, 1848, he was jointly responsible for and involved in the assault on the Munich armory . He returned to Switzerland and took part in the fighting in Vaud . He joined the liberal party and became a lawyer , councilor and school councilor in St. Gallen . From 1857 to 1867 he was a member of the Grand Council of St. Gallen. In 1861 he was a member of the cantonal government as a councilor. From 1864 to 1867 he was a district administrator in St. Gallen.
