Jonas Statkus

Jonas Stacevičius-Statkus (* 1904 in Gakūnai near Subačius , Panevėžys district ; † 1940 ) was a Lithuanian security agency chief.

Life

He studied law in France . From 1928 to 1931 he headed the I. (Political) Department of the Criminal Police at the Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania . From 1931 to 1934 he headed the Lithuanian security agency, later Valstybės saugumo departamentas as director. From 1934 to 1938 he lived in Paris . From 1939 to 1940 he was general secretary at Lietuvos tautininkų sąjunga . In 1940 he was arrested by the Soviet occupation government with Augustinas Povilaitis and General Kazys Skučas, imprisoned in Lubyanka ( Moscow ) and in Butyrka prison. The place of death is unknown.
