Jonathan AC Brown (born 1977 in Washington, DC ) is an American scholar of Islamic studies who converted to Islam and is an active figure in the Muslim-Christian dialogue in the United States.

Live and act

His Ph.D. he graduated from the University of Chicago in 2006 . He taught as an Islamic scholar (Assistant Prof. of Arabic and Islamic Studies) at the University of Washington in Seattle . Since 2012 he has been associate professor at the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, named after the Jesuit priest Edmund A. Walsh (1885–1956) . There he is director of the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding (ACMCU; Prince-al-Walid-bin-Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding). The criticized US Islamic scholar John Esposito was the founding director of the center. 2014 was Jonathan Brown on also after the Saudi Arabian investor Prince Alwaleed Talal bin named Chair of Islamic Civilization appointed. He is the author of various publications on Islam , including articles on hadith , Islamic law , Salafism , Sufism and the Arabic language . He is editor of the Oxford Encyclopedia of Islam and Law . He was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations , a private American think tank .

According to the publisher, Brown has studied and researched in Egypt , Syria , Turkey , Morocco , Saudi Arabia , Yemen , South Africa , India , Indonesia and Iran .

He was one of the speakers at the 2017 IIIT European Summer School organized by the London office of the International Institute of Islamic Thought .
