Jonathan Arnott (born January 12, 1981 in Sheffield , South Yorkshire ) is an English politician (formerly UKIP ) and chess player. He has been a member of the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy Group of the European Parliament since 2014 .

Life

Arnott began studying mathematics at the University of Sheffield when he was 15 . He completed his studies with a Master of Mathematics. After that, he initially worked as a math teacher. Arnott is married.

In 2008, Arnott succeeded Geoffrey Kingscott as Secretary General of UKIP. In 2014 he became a member of the European Parliament . There he is a member of the Committee on Budgets and the Committee on Budgetary Control.

In early 2018, Arnott left the party because he no longer agreed with the party leadership and direction of the party.

Sports

In his private life, Arnott plays games like chess and stratego . He took part in the Stratego World Championship twice and was a member of the British team in 2012, which won the bronze medal.

In chess he holds the title Candidate Master (CM). His highest rating was 2191 from November 2011 to June 2012. In the highest British league, the Four Nations Chess League (4NCL), he played for White Rose Chess in the 2010/11 season . With White Rose he took part in the European Club Cups 2010 and 2011.
