Career
society
After playing for Atletico Santa Rosa in his hometown of Santa Rosa, USA , Jonathan González joined the youth team of the Mexican club CF Monterrey in 2014 . For the 2017/18 season he was promoted to the first team of the first division club . On July 22, 2017 (1st matchday of Apertura) he made his debut in the 0-0 draw against the Monarcas Morelia in the top Mexican division. As a result, the 18-year-old González established himself as a regular in midfield and reached the final of the Liguillas of Apertura 2017 with the Rayados , which they lost to the UANL Tigres . In the 2017 Apertura of the Copa México , things went better for his club and this competition was successfully won. In total, González played 43 competitive games across all competitions throughout the 2017/18 season. In the following season 2018/19 he suffered from injury problems and therefore immediately lost his regular place. He scored his first goal on January 6, 2019 (1st matchday of Clausura) in a 5-0 home win against CF Pachuca . On May 2, 2019, he won the CONCACAF Champions League with CF Monterrey . During this season he completed 32 competitive games in which he was able to score a goal. In December 2019 he won his first championship with CF Monterrey when they triumphed over Club America in the iguillas of Apertura 2019 . In this 2019/20 season, however , he was only used sporadically and played a total of 24 competitive games.
National team
Since the son of Mexican parents was born in the United States, he has both nationalities and would therefore be eligible to play for both national teams. González played in various US youth selections. From the U-14 to the U-20 he wore the Stars and Stripes jersey until he declared his intention to play for Mexico in January 2018 . Finally, on January 24, 2018, he received the approval of FIFA and from then on he was able to play for the Mexican national team. González made his Mexico debut a week later when he came on for Elías Hernández in the 56th-minute friendly win over Bosnia and Herzegovina .
