Jonathan Rée

Jonathan Rée (* 1948 in Bradford ) is a British historian and philosopher.

Life

Jonathan Rée studied history at Sussex University and Oxford University . Rée was a founding member of the Radical Philosophy group in 1972 and writes regularly for their bimonthly magazine.

Rée has taught at Middlesex Polytechnic since 1977, which was merged with Middlesex University in 1992. Rée left the university in 2002 when it was restructured and the number of lecturers in the Philosophy Department was cut from 21 to five. He has been working as a freelance writer ever since. His courses at The Open University include Hannah Arendt , Ludwig Wittgenstein , Jean-Jacques Rousseau , Karl Marx , Søren Kierkegaard, and Friedrich Nietzsche .

Rée writes for the feature pages of newspapers and magazines such as Evening Standard , London Review of Books , Prospect , The Independent , Times Literary Supplement and New Humanist and also appears in translations in Der Freitag and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung .

He has appeared in various radio programs and in 1992 hosted a seven-part series on Channel 4 on modern philosophy with Paul Ricœur , Frank Kermode , Hélène Cixous , Terry Eagleton , Julia Kristeva , Edward Said and Jacques Derrida .

In 1999, Rée published a study on the history of the deaf .
