Career

Joonas Vihko began his career as a hockey player in the youth of HIFK Helsinki , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 2000/01 season . The following year, the attacker received the Jarmo Wasama commemorative trophy as the best new professional in the SM-liiga and was selected in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2002 as the 103rd player by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . However, they did not take him under contract. After five seasons with Helsinki's first team, Vihko moved to their league rivals SaiPa Lapeenranta during the 2005/06 season . After only one year, the right-shooter was signed by the HPK Hämeenlinna . With Hämeenlinna he first reached the final of the IIHF European Champions Cup in 2007 , in which he and his team were clearly defeated by the Russian opponent Ak Bars Kazan 6-0 and then ended the 2006/07 season in Finland in third place. In the 2009/10 season he reached the playoff finals with Hämeenlinnan Pallokerho and lost the series against TPS Turku . For the following season, the Finn signed a contract with Luleå HF from the Swedish Elitserien , for which he completed over 180 Elitserien games by 2013, in which he collected 83 points scorer.

In May 2013 his current contract with Luleå HF was terminated and Vihko returned to HPK. In the following years he played for Ilves Tampere , Vaasan Sport and in the 2017/18 season for EC Bad Tölz in the DEL2 .
