Joop van Nellen

Johannes Cornelis van Nellen (born March 15, 1910 in Delft , Netherlands , † November 14, 1992 , ibid) was a Dutch football player . The striker was active with DHC Delft in the 1920s and 1930s . Between 1928 and 1937 he played 27 times for the Dutch national team .

life and career

The left winger was only 18 years old and was still playing with the DHC in the second Dutch division when he was appointed to the Elftal squad by the KNVB's selection committee for the game against Italy on December 2nd in 1928. In Milan he was one of four debutants in the orange shirt; with him played alongside the experienced Wim Tap , who scored the two goals in the 3-2 defeat, the newbies Beb Bakhuys and Gerard Tap in attack; in addition, goalkeeper Leo Halle made his first game for the Netherlands.
