Jordan Paul Pearce (born October 10, 1986 in Anchorage , Alaska ) is an American ice hockey goalkeeper who has played for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League since 2009 and also for the Toledo Walleye in the ECHL .

Career

Jordan Pearce attended the junior program of the US hockey association USA Hockey from autumn 2002 and competed with their team in the North American Hockey League . After two years, he moved to the junior league United States Hockey League in 2004 , where he played one season as the goalkeeper of the Lincoln Stars before he began studying at the University of Notre Dame in 2005 .

In his first two years at college he was the substitute behind goalkeeper David Brown and played only twelve games together in both seasons. In 2007 Pearce finally took over the regular place in the gate and led the team to the finals of the national college championship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , where they were, however, subject to Boston College . Pearce received the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's Best Goalkeeper Award after the end of the season, as well as other honors from his university.

In the 2008-09 season he won the most of all college goalkeepers in the USA with 30 wins this season and was also one of the best goalkeepers in the country in the other categories. He also maintained his form in the CCHA playoffs in spring 2009, won the CCHA championship with Notre Dame and was voted the most valuable player in the finals. In addition, he was recognized for his student achievements in connection with his involvement in sports and received the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. After his team failed early in the finals of the NCAA and he had completed his studies with a degree in anthropology and a medical preparatory course, he signed a two-year contract on April 10, 2009 with the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League . Just one day later he made his professional debut with the Grand Rapids Griffins , the Red Wings farm team , in the American Hockey League .

In autumn 2009 he competed in training camp with Daniel Larsson and Thomas McCollum for the two goalkeeper places at the Griffins, but could not prevail and began the season in the ECHL with the Toledo Walleye . There he was initially unable to convince when he had to accept at least four goals per game in nine games in a row.

He also began the 2010/11 season in the ECHL with the Toledo Walleye, but after eight games he was called back to the Griffins AHL squad.
