Jordi Codina i Torrecilla (* 1952 in Barcelona ) is a Catalan classical guitarist, conductor, composer and music teacher. Jordi Codina is assigned to the Catalan Guitar School.

life and work

Codina studied at the Conservatori Superior Municipal de Música in Barcelona with Gracià Tarragó .

Together with Josep Maria Mangado he founded a classical guitar duo and with this duo he recorded the entire work of Fernando Sor for two guitars. From 1971 to 1988 he was a member of the Tarragó Quartet , with whom he undertook extensive concert tours in Europe, Asia and America. As a soloist and conductor, he was particularly associated with the Orquestra de Cambra de l'Empordà (Chamber Orchestra of the Empordà). Codina composed works for guitar and chamber music. In 2006 he premiered the musical romance Capitán Trueno on the 50th anniversary of the person and on the 75th birthday of its author Víctor Mora . He premiered works by Xavier Montsalvatge , Joaquim Homs , Àngel Cerdà and Francesc Taverna .

Since 1972 he has also taught at the Barcelona Municipal Conservatory . He also worked as a music critic and is the author of a book about the composer Xavier Montsalvatge . From 1985 to 1988 he was President of the Catalan Guitar Society. In 1993 he received the Premi Nacional de música of the Generalitat de Catalunya for his commitment to contemporary music.
