Jorge Manuel Almeida Gomes Andrade [ ˈʒɔɾʒɯ ãˈdɾadɯ ] (born April 9, 1978 in Lisbon ) is a former Portuguese football player .
Career
In the club
The central defender Jorge Andrade made his professional debut at CF Estrela Amadora in the 1997/98 season and was able to celebrate the best placement in the club's history with the club with seventh place in the top Portuguese division, the Primeira Liga .
In the following years he made a name for himself with good performances and was finally signed by the top club FC Porto in 2000 , where he was a regular for two years.
In the summer of 2002, Jorge Andrade moved to the Spanish club Deportivo La Coruña for around 12 million euros .
For the 2007/08 season Andrade moved to the Italian record champions Juventus Turin , who paid a transfer fee of about ten million euros to La Coruña. Already on Matchday he withdrew the away game at AS Roma a broken left kneecap to. His return was originally expected in late February 2008. After another operation in March 2008, participation in the 2008 European Football Championship was not possible. On July 10, 2008, Jorge Andrade injured his left knee again and had to undergo another operation, which is why he had to pause for a few months. In April 2009, Andrade's contract with Juventus was terminated by mutual agreement.
In the national team
Jorge Andrade made his debut on April 25, 2001 in the game against France under coach António Oliveira in the Portuguese national team .
As a result, he took part with Portugal in the 2002 World Cup and the 2004 European Championship in his own country, where, despite an own goal in the semifinals against the Netherlands , he was runner-up with his country . He was absent from the 2006 World Cup in Germany due to a knee injury.
