Jorge Bom Jesus

Jorge Lopes Bom Jesus (born July 26, 1962 in the district of Água Grande , São Tomé and Príncipe ) is a São Tomé linguist and politician MLSTP-PSD and since 2018 Prime Minister or Prime Minister of the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe.

He studied linguistics , especially French philology and Lusitanistics , at the University of Toulouse , among others, as well as studying pedagogy there. He later worked as a lecturer at the University of São Tomé. He is married and has five children.

He also worked as a teacher and was the contact person responsible for Franco-São-Toméan relations.

Between 2008 and 2010 he was Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of São Tomé and Principe and from 2012 to 2014 as Minister of Education, Culture and Science.

In 2011 he became vice-president of his party, the MLSTP-PSD and in 2018 he was a candidate for the office of prime minister.

Its policy focuses on education and training as well as stimulating the economy.

On November 29, 2018, he was appointed Prime Minister by President Evaristo Carvalho . In his inaugural speech, he was the first premier of São Tomé to speak not in Portuguese but in Creole .
