Norberto José d'Alva Costa Alegre (* 1951 ) was Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe from 1992 to 1994 .

Political career

He joined the Partido de Convergência Democrática-Grupa de Reflexão (PCD-GR) party, founded in 1990 . In the government of Daniel Lima dos Santos Daio he was Minister of Finance and Economy. After his dismissal by President Miguel Trovoada, who has been in power since 1991, on April 22, 1992, he became the new head of government on May 16. His term ended on July 2, 1994 when he was dismissed by the president. His successor was the previous Defense Minister Evaristo Carvalho , who was expelled from the PCD-GR for this. His PCD-GR trades under the name MDFM-PCD after forming an alliance with the Movimento Democrático das Forças da Mudança party and he later held a seat in parliament for the constituency of Água Grande, which is home to the capital São Tomé .

He is married to Alda Bandeira , who was one of the founders of the PCD-GR and was Foreign Minister from 1991 to 1993 and 2002 . On June 30, 1996, she ran as a presidential candidate, but was eliminated with 14.6 percent of the vote in the first ballot.
