Jorge Degas

Jorge Degas (* 1953 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Danish bassist of Brazilian descent who has made a name for himself in jazz and world music .

Degas, who grew up as a street child in the favelas of Rio and is a self-taught musician , has been a professional musician since 1970. Initially he performed with Brazilian musicians such as Robertinho Silva , Paulo Moura , Martinho da Vila and Alceu Valença . In 1982 he performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival . He toured Europe in 1986 with Al Di Meola and in 1991 with Bob Moses . He has been at home in Denmark since 1987 and has played at numerous European festivals. He submitted thirteen albums under his name; as a studio musician , he is involved in numerous productions. He created the film scores for Paraiba Mulher Macho , Bom Burgues and Dona Beija .

The documentary film Cantagalo deals with the life of Degas . The Hill to the Singing Rooster (1995) by Andreas Weiser.
