José Araquistáin Arrieta (born March 4, 1937 in Azkoitia ) is a former Spanish soccer player who took part in the 1962 World Cup with the national team of his home country . He played in the position of goalkeeper .

Career

Arrieta was born on March 4, 1937 in Azkoitia, northern Spain, in the Basque Country . First he played for CD Elgoibar before he was discovered by Real Sociedad San Sebastián's talent search . After a few years in the youth department of the traditional Spanish club, he was accepted into the professional team in 1956. After five years and 106 games for Sociedad, the goalkeeper moved on to Real Madrid in 1961 , where he couldn't get past regular goalkeeper Vicente Train , but was still a member of the second generation of white ballet under the leadership of Francisco Gento , one of the few remaining from the first generation the legendary Real team of the late fifties. In 1968 he then moved to Elche to Elche CF , where he was active as a regular goalkeeper for three years and then moved on to CD Castellón in 1971 and ended his career there. For the Spanish national soccer team , José Araquistáin completed six international matches between 1960 and 1962 and played the 1962 World Cup as a goalkeeper.
