José García (born February 21, 1926 in Pocitos , Montevideo , † January 8, 2011 ) was a Uruguayan football player .
Career
society
Midfielder José "Loncha" García was a member of Club Atlético Defensor's youth team . He was there at the beginning of his career at least from 1944 to 1949 in the Primera División in ranks of the first division team. In 1947 he won the Torneo de Honor with the team . From the 1949/50 season to 1954/55 he completed 107 top division games for the Italian Seria A club FC Bologna and scored 16 goals. In the season 1955/56 followed an engagement on loan with Bologna's league rival Atalanta Bergamo . For this he played 13 times in the top Italian league and scored once in the opposing goal.
National team
García was a member of the senior national team of Uruguay , for which he completed 21 internationals between January 24, 1945 until his last use on April 11, 1948. He scored four international goals. He was a member of Uruguay's squad at the South American Championships in 1945 , 1946 and 1947 . He participated with Uruguay in the Copa Río Branco in 1947 and 1948. In 1948 he won the Copa Perón with the Uruguayan selection trained by Juan López . García was also one of the pre-selection for the 1950 World Cup , but was ultimately not appointed to the squad.
