José María Hernández

José María Hernández Espaillat (born December 20, 1942 in Moca , Dominican Republic , † October 5, 2010 in Santiago de los Caballeros , Dominican Republic) was a politician and entrepreneur from the Dominican Republic.

biography

Hernández studied law and after graduating with a licentiate ( Licenciado ) began working as a lawyer . In the 1970s he was then Professor of Law at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM).

He was married to Sonia Guzmán, the daughter of businessman Antonio Guzmán Fernández . When his father-in-law became president in 1978 , he was entrusted with the influential position of head of the presidential chancellery ( Secretario Administrativo de la Presidencia ). In this function, he sometimes also received state guests, such as the Taiwanese Foreign Minister Chu Fu-sung in April 1980 .

After the suicide of President Guzmán on July 4, 1982 and the associated resignation from the government, he worked as an entrepreneur and as such was also the French honorary consul in Santiago de los Caballeros.

Later he was a board member of the Santiago Development Company ( Asociación para el Desarrollo de Santiago ) between 1992 and 1993 . He was also director of human resources at the PUCMM, the country's first private university founded in 1962 , and a member of the regional committee of the Dominican Commission of UNESCO in Santiago de los Caballeros.
