Jos Stelling

Jos Stelling (born July 16, 1945 in Utrecht ) is a Dutch film director , screenwriter and producer .

Life

The autodidact Stelling is considered a master of the wordless film: The characters in his stories are observed in detail and express themselves more through facial expressions than through words.

In 1981 he founded the Dutch Film Festival ( Nederlandse Filmdagen ) as a festival for Dutch directors. Stelling owns two cinemas in Utrecht .

Prizes and awards

In 1975 he was nominated for his film Mariken van Nieumeghen at the Cannes Film Festival . At the International Film Festival 1981 in Moscow won The Pretenders the golden prize. In 1995 the film The Flying Dutchman was nominated at the Venice Film Festival .
