Josef Albert Amann

Josef Albert Amann (* 1832 ; † 1906 ) was a German gynecologist and the father of the later gynecologist Josef Albert Amann junior .

Life

Amann studied medicine in Munich and Würzburg , where he turned to gynecology and obstetrics as an assistant to Friedrich Wilhelm von Scanzoni . After receiving his doctorate in 1859, he continued his education at the universities of Berlin , Vienna , Prague , Paris , London and Edinburgh . In 1861 he was the first to hold lectures in gynecology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and in 1874 he became an associate professor . He was responsible for the establishment of the Royal Polyclinic for Gynecological Diseases, and on November 5, 1884, the Royal Gynecological Clinic was also established in the General Hospital IJ at his instigation. In 1894 he was appointed royal Bavarian councilor .
