Nicholas James "Nicky" Weaver (born March 2, 1979 in Sheffield ) is a former English football goalkeeper .
Career
From an early age, Weaver played for what is now the English third division club Mansfield Town , where he played in the professional squad from 1994 to 1997, but could only play one game. In 1997 he moved to the "Citizens" on a free transfer following the recommendation of Alex Stepney , the goalkeeping coach of Manchester City. Weaver made his debut for Manchester City in the 1998/99 season against Blackpool FC. This season he set an internal club record of 23 clean sheets. 1999 Weaver played into the hearts of the fans when he saved a penalty in the play-off game for promotion to today's Football League Championship against FC Gillingham and Manchester rose thereby. Then Weaver was nominated for the first time for the England U-21 national team.
The next few years were marked by injuries for Weaver. From 2000 to 2002 he played only irregularly for City, from 2002 to August 2006 he played only one game for the "Citizens": In the last game of the season 2003/04 he was in the starting line-up against Middlesbrough FC , but had to during the Game to be replaced again.
In the 2005/06 season Weaver was loaned to Sheffield Wednesday , still injured . Weaver, who was a fan of the "Owls" even as a child, only got fit shortly after the start of the second half of the season and played 14 games for Wednesday.
Since the 2006/07 season, the 27-year-old played again for Manchester City. After the previous number 1 moved to Portsmouth FC in goal from City David James , Manchester bought the Swedish national goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson from Stade Rennes , who was injured at the beginning of the season. Weaver represented him so well at this time that he took Isaksson away from him. In the course of the season, Isaksson regained his regular place, so that Weaver was only the substitute bench again.
For the 2007/08 season Weaver moved to the Premier League relegated Charlton Athletic in the Football League Championship .
Since August 5, 2009 Weaver played for Dundee United in the Scottish Premier League . On January 27, 2010, however, he was given a free transfer to the English Premier League club Burnley FC . After the six-month contract expired, Weaver moved to his hometown club Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2010 .
