Josef Altheimer or Joseph Altheimer (born February 12, 1860 in Aystetten , † June 27, 1913 in Bad Wörishofen ) was a German painter and draftsman.

life and work

Josef Altheimer was the son of a master bricklayer and studied from 1883 at the Munich Art Academy , where he learned from Wilhelm von Lindenschmit (1829–1895). According to his matriculation entry, he was living in Kriegshaber near Augsburg when he entered the academy and his father had already died.

Altheimer became an art teacher and worked from 1891 to 1912 as a professor at the old grammar school in Regensburg . He was also a sought-after painter and restorer. Many of his works belong to the field of sacred art, he also created large wall and high altar pictures. In the Albertus Magnus Chapel of the Regensburg Dominican Church of St. Blasius there is a neo-Gothic winged altar with paintings by Altheimer from the life of St. Albertus Magnus .
