Josef Azizi

Josef Azizi (born April 14, 1948 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer and former judge at the Court of the European Union .

Life

Azizi studied law and social and economic sciences at the University of Vienna . He completed his law studies in 1973 with a doctorate , and social and economic sciences as a master's degree . Azizi took on teaching positions at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and other universities. From 1975 to 2002 he was a lecturer and later an honorary professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna. He was a ministerial advisor and head of department in the Federal Chancellery and was a member of the steering committee for legal cooperation in the Council of Europe . He also coordinated the adaptation of Austrian federal law to the law of the European Union .

On January 18, 1995, he was appointed judge of the “Court of First Instance of the European Union” (since 2007 “Court of the European Union”). In 2010 he was reappointed until 2016. However, he retired early on August 31, 2013.
