Josef Dernjač

Josef Dernjač (born March 8, 1851 in Heilenstein ; † March 31, 1920 in Vienna ) was an Austrian art historian .

Life

Josef Dernjač, ​​born in Lower Styria , graduated from the Institute for Austrian Historical Research in 1877 , after having worked as an unskilled worker at the library of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1874 . There he was appointed 1st class scriptor in 1895 . In 1897 he received the title of Imperial Councilor . A year later Dernjač became director of the Gräflich Harrachschen Gemäldegalerie and finally in 1911 director of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In 1918 he was retired.

In 1954, the Dernjacgasse in the 23rd district of Liesing in Vienna was named after him.
