Josef Fortner

Josef Fortner (born January 3, 1893 in Kreuth, Griesstätt , Upper Bavaria , † September 17, 1969 in Berlin ) was a German veterinarian, farmer and hygienist.

Life

Fortner studied veterinary medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1912 he was reciprocated in the Corps Arminia Munich . From 1919 to 1923 he was a research assistant to Theodor Kitt at the Institute for Animal Pathology. With him he wrote his doctoral thesis, with which he was awarded a Dr. med. vet. received his doctorate . In addition, he studied in 1921/22 at the agricultural department of the Technical University of Munich . After graduating as a qualified farmer and passing the examination for the state veterinary service in Bavaria, he went to the newly established veterinary department of the Robert Koch Institute for 13 years in 1923 . There, the professor appointed, he was from 1936 to 1945 Government and Senior Government in the veterinary department of the Reich Health Office . After the war he was the main consultant for four years, from 1949 director of the Institute for General Hygiene of the City of Berlin, which later became the Robert Koch Institute for Hygiene and Infectious Diseases. In 1952 he moved to the Federal Health Office as director of the veterinary medicine department . Most recently he was managing director.
