Josef Jaroslav Langer (born November 12, 1806 in Bohdaneč , † April 28, 1846 in Bohdaneč) was a Czech journalist and poet.

Life

After graduating from high school in Hradec Králové , where he a. a. Taught by Václav Kliment Klicpera , he began studying philosophy at Prague University in 1826 . He broke off his studies in the same year and from then on devoted himself only to literature and sometimes worked as a private teacher.

Langer was a great lover of the theater. Thanks to his merit, theatrical performances were staged in his home town.

Works

He wrote articles and poems for Czech newspapers Čechoslav, Květy and Musejní časopis , which mostly dealt with the loneliness and psyche of a bourgeoisie. His other poems dealt in a political-patriotic-satirical way with that of the petty bourgeoisie. His epic works were on the border between folk poetry and romantic poetry, which marked the poet's emotional life. He processed themes from old Bohemian fairy tales and sagas, but also translated Russian folklore, observed habits and customs and immortalized them on paper, strongly influenced by František Ladislav Čelakovský .
