Life

Jellinek came from the working class and learned the profession of typesetter . He later became editor of the Kleine Blatt and Workers' Sunday . During the time of Austrofascism he worked for the social democratic publisher Vorwärts-Verlag , which had been confiscated by the Dollfuss / Schuschnigg regime and was continued by left-wing Catholics. Throughout his life he supported his sisters Adele , who was confined to a wheelchair after a maloperation, and Rosa , who looked after her sister. Jellinek's last known residence in Vienna was at Margaretenstrasse 114 in the 5th district of Vienna . "He did not take advantage of an opportunity to escape because he believed that he could continue to support his siblings if he stayed in Vienna, even if he no longer worked as a journalist but had to work again as a typesetter."

Jellinek was arrested three days after the Nazi regime marched in, and on May 24, 1938, was deported to the Dachau concentration camp on one of the first transports . From Dachau he came to Buchenwald concentration camp , where he stayed until the summer of 1942. He died on October 5, 1942 in Sachsenhausen concentration camp .

The two sisters were also murdered by the Nazi regime - Rosa in 1942 after a transport to Minsk , Adele in 1943 shortly after their arrival in the Theresienstadt ghetto .
