National debt ratio in Estonia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The national debt ratio of Estonia shows the relationship between the Estonian national debt on the one hand and the Estonian nominal gross domestic product on the other.

Development in recent years

Estonia's national debt ratio increased between 2008 and 2013 due to the financial crisis . While the national debt of EUR 0.7 billion at the end of 2008 corresponded to a national debt ratio of 4.5%, the national debt ratio at the end of 2013, given a debt level of EUR 1.8 billion, reached a value of 9.8%. However, this is still the lowest value in the euro area .

Forecast development

The International Monetary Fund assumes that Estonia's national debt ratio will decrease to 8.2% by the end of 2019, with a debt level of EUR 2.1 billion. This would mean that Estonia would continue to meet the Maastricht criterion of no more than 60%.
