National debt ratio in Romania

The national debt ratio of Romania indicates the relationship between the Romanian national debt on the one hand and the Romanian nominal gross domestic product on the other.

Development in recent years

Romania's national debt ratio increased between 2008 and 2013 due to the financial crisis . Whereas the national debt of 70.2 billion leu at the end of 2008 corresponded to a national debt ratio of 13.6%, the national debt ratio at the end of 2013, given a debt level of then 247.5 billion leu, reached a value of 39.4%.

Forecast development

The International Monetary Fund assumes that Romania's national debt ratio will decline slightly to 36.5% by the end of 2019 with a debt level of 321.5 billion leu.
