Josef Keßler (politician)

Josef Keßler (born March 28, 1885 in Bartholomäberg ; † September 19, 1967 there ) was an Austrian politician ( CSP / ÖVP ) and farmer. He was mayor of Bartholomäberg and from 1945 to 1949 member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

Keßler attended the Bartholomäberg elementary school between 1891 and 1899 and worked as a substitute teacher in Gantschier between 1906 and 1917 . From 1917 he worked on his parents' farm. In addition to his agricultural activities, he also worked as a general store from the 1920s.

Politics and functions

Keßler was a member of the Christian Social Party and belonged to the municipal council of Bartholomäberg from 1913 to 1927. On July 12, 1927, he took over the office of mayor or mayor and held this office until June 13, 1938. In addition, from 1920 to 1926 he was secretary and chairman of the Montafon section of the regional culture council in the interwar period . After the Second World War, at the end of the war on May 8, 1945, he again took over the post of mayor of Bartholomäberg, which he led until 1964. He was also a member of the Vorarlberg regional farmers' council from 1946 to 1961 and a representative of the Montafon estate from 1949 to 1965 . From 1949 to 1965 he acted as chairman of the Bartholomäberg music club and was chairman and co-founder of the Bartholomäberg cattle breeding club. He also worked as a member of the board of trustees of the Landeshypothekenbank, as a member of the welfare advisory board of the Bludenz district administration and was a member of the parish council of Bartholomäberg.

As a member of the constituency of Bludenz , he represented the ÖVP between December 11, 1945 and October 24, 1949 in the Vorarlberg state parliament, where he was a member of the agricultural committee and a substitute member of the economic committee. In addition to the ÖVP, he also belonged to the farmers 'union and was active within the party as a member of the state party leadership of the ÖVP Vorarlberg and member of the board of the Montafon district farmers' union. In addition, from 1920 to 1938 and from 1946 to 1961 he was chairman of the Montafon district farmers' association.

Private

Keßler was born as the son of the farmer and community leader Franz Josef Keßler (1827–1894) and his wife Anna Maria Ganahl (1841–1919). He married Regina Zudrell (1883–1948) on February 9, 1914 and was the father of three sons and two daughters, who were born between 1914 and 1920.
