Josef Keim

Josef Keim , also written Joseph Keim, (born September 6, 1883 in Augsburg , † July 6, 1973 in Straubing ) was a German high school teacher and local researcher .

Josef Keim attended the Latin school in Scheyern and the high school near St. Stephan in Augsburg. He studied classical philology in Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1908. From 1909 to 1912 he was an assessor at the Realgymnasium in Würzburg . From 1912 he worked as a grammar school teacher at the grammar school in Straubing, where he became senior teacher .

He dealt intensively with the history and archeology of Straubing and was a member from 1912 and chairman of the Historical Association for Straubing and the surrounding area from 1921 to 1938 and 1949 to 1970 and honorary director of the Gäubodenmuseum . In 1950 he played a major role in the recovery of the Roman treasure trove from Straubing .

In July 1952 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit . On September 5, 1958, he was made an honorary citizen of Straubing due to his research into the city's history and his commitment to the Gäubodenmuseum . On December 15, 1959, he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit . In 1968 he became an honorary member of the Bavarian State Association for Homeland Care . He was a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute . In Straubing, Dr.-Josef-Keim-Strasse was named after him.
