biography

Kramolín learned painting from a Jesuit . In 1758 he joined the Jesuit order as a lay brother. After the order was abolished in 1773, he stayed in Osek for a short time and then settled in Karlsbad, where he became councilor. In 1799 he visited Prague to study the paintings in churches and libraries. He paid particular attention to the frescoes by Franz Anton Maulbertsch in the library of the Strahov monastery .

Josef Kramolín painted almost exclusively religious pictures, and his clients were predominantly church institutions and orders. His brother Wenceslaus Kramolín (Václav Prokop Kramolín, July 4, 1733 to January 23, 1799) was also a painter and is proven to be the master of the Prague colliery for 1772.
