Josef Lidl

Josef "Sepp" Lidl (born August 22, 1911 in Mährisch Trübau ; † April 15, 1999 in Weißenburg in Bavaria ) was a German graphic artist , author , musician and local historian .

Life

Josef Lidl grew up in Mährisch Trübau in Schönhengstgau as the son of a brewing manager and had two brothers. At the age of eight Josef Lidl received violin and later piano lessons. In 1927 Lidl founded his own string quartet . He studied art and music at the Charles University in Prague and from 1936 was a teacher at the secondary school in Neutitschein, today's Nový Jičín . In 1937 Lidl married Erni Janiczek; Gerti Lidl-Griesbauer comes from the marriage. In 1939 Lidl was transferred to Mährisch Trübau. In 1940 he was called up by the Wehrmacht . After Russian and later Czech captivity and the expulsion of the Germans from Czechoslovakia , Josef Lidl found his family in Treuchtlingen in Central Franconia . In 1947, Lidl became a teacher at what is now the Werner von Siemens high school in Weißenburg , where he taught until 1976. In 1950 Lidl's family moved to Weißenburg. In 1952 Josef Lidl organized a meeting of the expellees from Mährisch Trübau. In 1954, Lidl co-founded the Schönhengster Sing- und Spielschar. From 1960 to 1986 he directed the Weißenburg Chamber Orchestra. In 1967 Josef Lidl designed the Weißenburger Heimatmuseum, in 1988 the newly opened Schönhengster Heimatmuseum in Göppingen , 1969 the ecumenical chapel in Massenbach . From 1970 Lidl helped significantly with the opening of the Folklore Museum Treuchtlingen . Mayor Hans Döbler presented him with the honorary citizenship certificate in 1973 as part of the opening ceremony of the Folklore Museum.
