Josef Luchner

Josef Luchner (born November 28, 1877 in Bolzano ; † July 6, 1931 in Vent ) was an Austrian politician of the Christian Social Party (CSP).

Life

Luchner grew up in Meran . After attending elementary school and high school , he completed a law degree at the University of Innsbruck , which he completed in 1902 with a doctorate . Since 1901 he was a member of the Catholic student union AV Vindelicia Innsbruck . After completing his doctorate, he began to work as a lawyer and from 1908 returned to his hometown of Merano. After the First World War , in which he had served as a reserve officer, he campaigned for South Tyrol to remain with Austria and against its annexation by Italy . From April 4, 1919 to December 10, 1919, the date on which the Treaty of Saint-Germain came into force , he was a delegate to the Constituent National Assembly . In the last free elections before the fascists came to power , Luchner was elected Vice Mayor of Merano. Professionally, the lawyer familiar with Austrian law could no longer gain a foothold in Italy and got into debt, which is why he fled to Austria on July 6, 1931 via the Hochjoch . He was last seen in the late afternoon of July 6th by the host of the Hochjochhospice . On July 10th, he was found lifeless about a 20-minute walk away and the cause of death was determined to be a heart attack .
