Josef Pechacek

Josef Pechacek (born February 21, 1906 in Vienna , † January 10, 1945 in Russia ) was a cabaret artist and poet .

Life

Josef Pechacek was the son of the blacksmith Franz Pechacek and his first wife Maria, geb. Kudec. He completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter . He practiced this profession for several years. In 1932 he became unemployed. He started writing, using the pseudonym K. Gran Chanson to write about unemployment for cabarets. In the summer of 1933 he founded the cabaret, Die Gooseberry, with Rudolf Spitz . He appeared as a performer and was a lyricist. By February 1934 his poems and stories also appeared in the social democratic press, such as the Arbeiter-Zeitung .

In 1933 he became a member of the Association of Socialist Writers . In 1933 he was also chairman of the Association of Young Authors Austria and deputy chairman of the Austrian Workers' Association founded by Viktor Matejka . He appeared at events organized by the Austrian Association of Young Authors , the theater guild , in adult education centers and on the radio. In 1938 he was briefly a reporter for the Neue Wiener Tagblatt .

In 1940 and 1941 he fought in Russia and became a non-commissioned officer. Towards the end of 1942 he married Valerie Barbara, b. Kadi. His trail was lost in the great bend of the Vistula . In April 1961 he was officially declared dead, determined to be January 10, 1945.
