Josef Reiter (philosopher)

Josef Reiter (born May 11, 1937 in Újezd ​​Svatého Kříže ) is a German philosopher .

Life

Reiter studied philosophy, catholic theology, history and psychology in Fulda , Munich and Paris . On his doctorate to Dr. phil. in Munich in 1965 there followed in 1971 his habilitation . Subsequently, he taught initially as a private lecturer for philosophy in Munich, from 1972 as a lecturer and from 1974 as professor for philosophy at the University of Regensburg . In 1985 he followed the call to Mainz, where he taught as a professor of philosophy. In 1990/1991 he was Vice President and from 1991 to 2001 President of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .

From 2003 to 2012 Reiter was President of the Catholic Academic Foreigners Service .

He was awarded the Ordre des Palmes Académiques in the officer level (1995), the Leibniz Medal of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz (2000) and the Order of Merit of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate (2002).
