Josef "Sepp" Roth (born November 11, 1959 in Zurich ) is a former Swiss football player .
Career
Josef Roth went through the juniors of FC Zurich-Affoltern and played in their 1st team from the 1977/78 season to 1981 - first in the 3rd, then in the 2nd division.
In 1981 he moved to FC Winterthur in National League B. In his first season at Winterthur, where he was mostly used as a joker, he scored seven goals in 22 appearances - FC Winterthur rose to National League A at the end of the season. In his first NLA season with FC Winterthur, he scored three goals in 18 games, and the FCW was relegated to the second highest league - in the immediately following promotion, he contributed nine goals in 26 games.
He then left Winterthur and moved to FC Wettingen , where he played for Aargau for two seasons. Then he moved back to Eulachstadt to FC Winterthur, who had been relegated from the NLA again, and stayed there for two more seasons. The next stop in his career was the Lucerne suburban club and league competitor FC Emmenbrücke . In the summer of 1990 he moved to the third-class FC Brüttisellen in the first division. There he helped the Zurich team as top scorer with 16 goals to promotion to National League B. After half a season in National League B, he ended his career in the National League after the first half of the season. His last position as a player was FC Frauenfeld .
After his active career, he coached various clubs active in regional football in the Winterthur region. Coming from Frauenfeld, he first became a player-coach for FC Töss in 1994 . From Töss he moved to FC Räterschen in 1997 and again later to FC Kollbrunn-Rikon, to which he remained loyal for five years and helped to move up to the third division in 2000/01. From 2007 to 2017 he was the coach of the second team at FC Phönix Seen . Then he took over the 1st team at SC Aadorf, where he had to leave after half a season and four days before the start of the second half of the season.
Private
His son Julian Roth plays in the Challenge League for FC Winterthur .
