Josef Samek (born November 6, 1957 in Vrchlabí ) is a former Czechoslovakian ski jumper .

Career

Samek jumped annually from 1976 in the Four Hills Tournament . At the ski flying world championship in 1979 he reached 5th place on January 1, 1979 in Planica . A day later he was able to win a jumping of the Four Hills Tournament for the first time in Partenkirchen . On December 30, 1979 he jumped for the first time in Oberstdorf in the newly created ski jumping World Cup . The first jumping he was unsuccessful and without World Cup points.

At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , Samek reached 39th place on the normal hill and 23rd place on the large hill.

At the Four Hills Tournament in 1980/81 he fell far short of expectations in all four competitions and could not repeat his success of 1979. At the first jump after the tour in Harrachov he achieved his first World Cup points with 7th place on the large hill. In the following World Cup competitions up to the end of the season, he always landed in the points. At the end of the 1980/81 World Cup season , he finished 31st in the overall ranking. The following season began like the last with unsuccessful jumping in the Four Hills Tournament . In his first competition after the tour on January 27, 1982, however, he was able to jump onto the podium for the first time with a 2nd place in St. Moritz . However, it was the only podium finish in his career. He finished the following World Cups for the most part in the points, so that at the end of the season he was 16th in the overall World Cup ranking. The following season began again with poor placements on the tour, so that after jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on January 1, 1984 he decided to end his career. He did not take part in the rest of the season.
