Josef Schnuch

Josef Schnuch (born June 25, 1906 in Ründeroth ; † October 12, 1992 in Wellen ) was a German entrepreneur .

Life

After an internship at Deutsche Bank in Cologne , he joined Trier Kalk- und Dolomitwerke AG in Wellen on the Moselle in 1929 . The company had existed since 1889 and produced quicklime from raw dolomite . In the following years, as a member of the board , he played a key role in expanding the plants. In April 1951 he took over the company from French administration and enlarged it by expanding the product range to include concrete and cement as well as purchasing other companies in the building materials industry. In 1968 the Trier lime, dolomite and cement works (TKDZ) had a total of almost 1,000 employees, making them one of the largest employers in the region. In 1970 he sold to Dolomitwerke GmbH Wülfrath , but remained managing director until 1976 and a member of the advisory board until his death .

Schnuch was known not only for his entrepreneurial performance, but also for his social and cultural commitment. In 1969 he became an honorary citizen of Wellen, and a street in the town was named after him while he was still alive. From 1972 to 1989 he was chairman of the Friends of Trier University , which made him an honorary senator. He was also awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.
