Josef Steinruck

Josef Steinruck (born September 16, 1935 in Würzburg ) is a German church historian .

Life

The second of six children of the farmer Johann Steinruck and his wife Berta, geb. Göbel, from Bergtheim, attended the elementary school in Bergtheim from 1942 to 1947, the humanistic grammar school in Miltenberg from 1947 to 1949 and the old grammar school in Würzburg from 1949 to 1953 ( Abitur : July 1953). From the winter semester 1953/54 up to and including the winter semester 1958/59 he studied theology at the theological faculty of the University of Würzburg. There he became a member of the Catholic student union KDStV Gothia Würzburg in 1953 . After ordination in Würzburg on March 15, 1959, he was initially chaplain in Wörth am Main . From May 1, 1960 to October 31, 1961, the Commission for Bavarian State History at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich sponsored him as a scholarship holder with study visits to foreign archives, especially the Vatican Secret Archives in Rome . After receiving his doctorate on June 26, 1962 as Dr. theol. at the theological faculty of the University of Würzburg with the dissertation on Johann Baptist Fickler , and again work in pastoral care, he was released for habilitation. From January 1, 1964 to March 31, 1972 was a research assistant at the seminar for church history at the theological faculty of the University of Würzburg. After the habilitation on February 10, 1971 for the subject of church history of the Middle Ages and modern times by the theological faculty of the University of Würzburg due to the habilitation thesis Prussia and the Roman Curia in the Nunciature dispute (1785–1790) [not yet published] and appointment as a private lecturer by certificate from April 30, 1971 he became full professor for church history of the Middle Ages and modern times on April 1, 1972 at the theological faculty Trier . As a professor, he was released on October 1, 2000. From April 5, 1982 to September 30, 2009, he was the Dean of Studies at the Trier Theological Faculty (responsible for student advice and examination matters). Benedict XVI. appointed him Honorary Prelate of His Holiness in 2009 .
