Johann Baptist Fickler

Johann Baptist Fickler (born May 24, 1533 in Backnang ; † 1610 in Munich ) was a German lawyer , councilor and author .

Life

From 1551 to 1555 he studied law at the University of Ingolstadt . From 1559 to 1588 he was in the service of the Archdiocese of Salzburg , where he worked as Archbishop Protonotarius from 1585 . In 1562 he was sent to the Council of Trent , where he wrote the Acta Concilii Tridentini . In 1565 he received his doctorate in both rights ( iuris utriusque doctor ); his doctoral supervisor was the future Pope Gregory XIII.

He was the educator ( preceptor ) of the future Duke Maximilian I at the Bavarian court and was appointed court counselor in 1591. After Maximilian came to power, from 1598 onwards, he began to inventory the art chamber and the ducal coin collection . To this end, he compiled an inventory of the Kunstkammer listing over 3400 items, as well as the book Descriptio antiquorum Numismatum . He also wrote theological and legal treatises .
