Josef Winkler (theologian)

Josef Winkler (* 1826 in Vsetín ; † October 22, 1903 in Arriach ) was an Austrian Evangelical Lutheran theologian . From 1895 to 1903 he was Superintendent of the Evangelical Superintendent of Vienna .

Life

Josef Winkler was the son of a cloth maker. He attended the grammar school in Teschen and the Lyceum in Pressburg . From 1845 to 1848 he studied at the Imperial and Royal Protestant Theological College AC and HC, which later became the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna . In 1849 Winkler passed the parish exam and was ordained in Brno . Then he was vicar in his birthplace Vsetín and from 1850 vicar and catechist in Hillersdorf .

His activity as parish priest, which occupied him until his death, led Josef Winkler to Carinthia . First he was pastor in Feffernitz from 1853 , then from 1859 pastor in Arriach . As the successor to Karl Bauer , Winkler became superintendent of the Evangelical Superintendent of Vienna in 1895, which at that time also included the Evangelical Lutheran parishes in Carinthia. After Winkler's death, Carl Lichtenstettiner succeeded him as superintendent in Vienna.
